Responding site-specifically to The Crypt Gallery, I discovered a letter ‘D’ carved in one of its walls. No one seemed to have noticed this before, which surrounded it with a veil of mystery. I used a slide projector in order to create a sequence of words, all starting with the letter D. The words are connected thematically to the site (The Crypt) and also to the act of creating in a site-specific way. The sets of words create a narrative, which open the possibility of speculation from the viewer. 

 

          Playing with the rhythm of the slide projector, these moments of ‘black’ in-between slides, allow the ‘D’ to be exposed and revealed. By using squares and arrows, I wanted to draw attention to the strange scene that surrounded the D. The medium adds to the work another layer of understanding, by using this ghostly technology to emphasize this subtle trace within this eerie environment.
