Artist statement
Observe, observe again, and again.
Exhaust the observed object.
Be obsessive.
Repeat once and again:
Persistency is the key.
There are objects which habit has made invisible.
There are cameras that produce images that nobody sees.
There are places that don’t exist in nobody’s mind.
The digital infrastructure produces infinite ready-made
Chance unveils overlooked histories.
The quotidian takes time in becoming present, in turning into image.
Mirar, volver a mirar, volver a mirar.
Agotar el objeto mirado.
Ser obsesiva.
Repetir una y otra vez:
la persistencia es la clave.
Hay objetos que el hábito ha vuelto invisibles.
Hay cámaras que producen imágenes que nadie ve.
Hay lugares que no existen en la mente de nadie.
La infraestructura digital produce infinitos ready-made.
El azar revela historias que pasan desapercibidas.
Lo cotidiano toma tiempo en hacerse presente, en convertirse en imagen.
Bio
María Fernanda Calderón graduated with a distinction in 2015 from a Masters in Fine Arts degree at University of the Arts London, UK. She received a B.A. in Graphic Design in 2006 at Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Colombia. She also studied photography, illustration and scriptwriting in Buenos Aires-Argentina and puppet making for stop motion in NY-USA.
Her degree’s show work “Dear orphan letters” was selected to participate at Float Art London 2015 exhibition, a showcase of the best new art graduates from universities across the UK. That same work was also selected for ALL Super Text 2015, at Cambridge School and Anglia Ruskin University.
While living in London, she exhibited in several group shows in London, Margate and Naples. She lives and works in Colombia, where she has exhibited her work at Rincón Projects in Bogotá, Lokkus Arte contemporáneo, Taller Impreciso, Museo el Castillo, Biblioteca de Belén and Casa de la Lectura Infantil in Medellín.
María Fernanda Calderón es maestra en Artes Plásticas de University of the Arts London, Londres, donde se graduó con honores en 2015. Hizo su pregrado en Diseño Gráfico en la Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Colombia. Ha realizado además estudios de ilustración, fotografía y guión en Buenos Aires, y de animación en Nueva York.
Fue seleccionada por su trabajo de grado de Maestría en Artes Plásticas “Dear Orphan Letters” para participar en la muestra Float Art London, que reune los mejores talentos universitarios del 2015 en el Reino Unido. Fue elegida por concurso en la muestra ALL Super Text 2015 en Cambridge School & Anglia Ruskin University con esta misma obra. Participó en varias exhibiciones colectivas en Londres, Margate y Nápoles durante sus estudios de maestría.
Actualmente reside y trabaja en Colombia, donde ha exhibido su obra en galerías comerciales como Rincon Projects en Bogotá y Lokkus Arte Contemporáneo en Medellín, así como en Taller Impreciso, el Museo el Castillo, La Biblioteca de Belén y La Casa de la Lectura Infantil.
