Series de Casa [Dawn will rise at 5:49 local time (GM-5) and El patio de mi casa] deal with the transience of space and time. Interweaving memories of my childhood home with the experience of living in London as my new settlement, they speak about home and elsewhere both as sites of dislocation. Fragments of each place remain as locations to which memories are attached, out of which identity is formed. Juxtaposing past and present, one representation of reality is transposed upon another. This encompasses the bodily, psychological and spiritual effects of belonging fully nowhere.
Home becomes most powerful when it is left behind, desired and imagined. It can only have meaning once we experience a certain level of displacement from it. In the nomadic experience of the contemporary, is home just something we now carry within ourselves?
These pieces are about contemplation, rhythm and time. They generate an environment for the creation of personal meditation. The slow rhythm of the passing of time, allows a moment for contemplation and reflection.
